Day 01 :

Arrival in Entebbe – Birding at Mabamba Swamp

Your birding safari begins with a warm welcome at Entebbe International Airport. Your driver-guide greets you, and you'll immediately set off for Mabamba Swamp—one of the best places in Africa to spot the elusive Shoebill Stork . Designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, this 16,500-hectare swamp is a birding paradise . You'll explore the narrow papyrus channels in a traditional canoe with an experienced local guide who knows the wetland intimately. The Shoebill is the star attraction, towering up to 1.5 meters tall with its massive shoe-shaped bill . You may also spot Papyrus Gonolek, Malachite Kingfisher, African Jacana, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, and African Fish Eagle . After this rewarding experience, transfer to your lodge in Entebbe for dinner and overnight.

Day 02 :

2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park – Birding En Route

After breakfast, depart for the scenic 5-6 hour drive to Kibale Forest National Park—home to the highest primate density in Africa and over 370 bird species . The journey passes through beautiful countryside, tea plantations, and crater lakes, with several birding stops along the way. Upon arrival, check into your lodge on the edge of the forest. In the afternoon, explore the forest edges and trails where you may spot Great Blue Turaco, Black-and-white Casqued Hornbill, and a variety of sunbirds and barbets . Evening birding around the lodge can reveal species such as African Wood Owls and bushbabies . Overnight at your Kibale lodge.

Day 03 :

3: Full Day Birding in Kibale Forest & Bigodi Wetland

Rise early for a full day of birding in Kibale Forest. The forest is rich in mixed species flocks, offering excellent opportunities to see the rare Green-breasted Pitta (with luck and an early start), White-naped Pigeon, Blue-throated Roller, and Black Bee-eater . The canopy reveals Great Blue Turacos, Grey Parrots, and Yellow-billed Barbets . In the afternoon, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary—a community-managed wetland renowned for its bird diversity. Here, you can spot Papyrus Gonolek, White-winged Warbler, and Great Blue Turaco in a different habitat . Keep your eyes peeled for red colobus and L'Hoest's monkeys as you walk the trails . Overnight at your Kibale lodge.

Day 04 :

4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Birding & Wildlife

After breakfast, depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park—one of Uganda's most diverse ecosystems with over 600 bird species . The drive passes through savannah grasslands, crater lakes, and forest patches, providing excellent birding along the way. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, then set out for an afternoon game drive that combines birding with wildlife viewing. Look for Martial Eagle, African Skimmer, and Black-headed Gonolek . You'll also see elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes roaming the savannah. The park's diverse habitats make it a birding paradise. Overnight at your Queen Elizabeth lodge.

Day 05 :

5: Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise – Waterbird Spectacular

Today you'll enjoy one of Africa's best birdwatching boat safaris along the Kazinga Channel—a 32-kilometer waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George. The channel attracts huge concentrations of waterbirds. From the boat, you'll spot Pink-backed Pelicans, African Spoonbills, Saddle-billed Storks, Pied Kingfishers, Great Cormorants, and African Openbills . The channel is also home to over 1,600 hippos and massive Nile crocodiles, adding to the wildlife spectacle. After lunch, continue birding in the park's savannah plains, searching for species you may have missed. Overnight at your Queen Elizabeth lodge.

Day 06 :

Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Albertine Rift Endemics

After breakfast, journey south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park—a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site and birding haven . Bwindi hosts 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemic bird species, making it one of the most important birding destinations in Africa . The drive offers beautiful views of the rolling hills and forests. Arrive at your lodge on the edge of the forest in the afternoon. Enjoy evening birding around the lodge, where you may spot forest robins, turacos, and nightjars. Key species to look for include African Green Broadbill, Shelley's Crimsonwing, Handsome Francolin, Regal Sunbird, and Rwenzori Turaco . Overnight at your Bwindi lodge.

Day 07 :

Morning Birding – Return to Entebbe – Departure

On your final day, enjoy an early morning birding session in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This is often the best time to observe active forest birds, including Bar-tailed Trogon, Black-faced Apalis, Mountain Masked Apalis, and Red-throated Alethe . After breakfast, begin the return journey to Entebbe. En route, stop at the Equator line for a photo opportunity and souvenir shopping. Arrive at Entebbe International Airport in time for your departure flight.
