Uganda is the most underrated destination in East Africa, a country where misty rainforests give way to open savannah and where the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas find refuge. For travelers booking wildlife tours in East Africa, Uganda offers something no other country can match: the chance to track gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, and the Big Five in Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls, all within a single itinerary. The landscapes are breathtaking, from the snow capped Rwenzori Mountains to the vast Lake Victoria. The wildlife is extraordinary, with over half of the world’s mountain gorillas calling Uganda home. And the experience is authentic, wilder and less polished than neighbouring Rwanda, but all the more rewarding for it. At Nomara Safaris, we design Uganda safaris that combine the intensity of primate tracking with the relaxation of savannah game drives, ensuring you experience the best of this remarkable country.

The best time to visit Uganda depends on what you want to see. The dry seasons from June to September and December to February offer the easiest trekking conditions for gorillas and chimpanzees, with the trails less muddy and the vegetation thinner. These months also offer the best game viewing in the savannah parks of Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls. The green seasons from March to May and October to November offer lower prices and fewer crowds, with the landscapes lush and green and the birding exceptional. However, the trekking is more challenging, and some roads become impassable. For the best balance of weather, wildlife, and value, consider the shoulder months of June and early December. Nomara Safaris can advise on the optimal timing for your Uganda safari based on your priorities.
