Lake Manyara National Park Canoe Safari – Glide Alongside Hippos & Flamingos
Lake Manyara National Park is a pocket-sized paradise tucked at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Ernest Hemingway once called it “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. While most visitors explore the park by vehicle, the true hidden gem of Manyara is experienced from the water. This Lake Manyara National Park canoe safari offers a perspective that no vehicle-based activity can replicate, placing you at eye level with hippos surfacing beside your canoe, flamingos feeding in the shallows, and elephants wading at the water’s edge. The calm, glassy surface of the alkaline lake creates ideal conditions for canoe-based exploration, and the familiar landmarks of the park take on an entirely different character when viewed from the water.
This Lake Manyara canoe safari includes transfers to the Endala picnic site launch point, a safety briefing, and all equipment including stable two-person fiberglass canoes, life jackets, paddles, and dry bags. An experienced guide accompanies your group to provide insights into the lake’s wildlife, bird species, and natural history. The activity is available when water levels permit, generally from November to June. The canoe safari can be combined with a game drive and the Treetop Walkway for a full day of adventure. Children aged 8 and above can participate.
