Rwanda Luxury Safaris

Land of a Thousand Hills

Rwanda

Rwanda is the smallest country in East Africa, but what it lacks in size it compensates with intensity and polish. For travelers booking wildlife tours in East Africa, Rwanda offers the most seamless and luxurious gorilla trekking experience on the continent. The country has invested heavily in tourism infrastructure, and the results are evident in the paved roads, the efficient airports, and the world class lodges that hug the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes. Beyond the gorillas, Rwanda offers chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of the oldest and most biodiverse rainforests in Africa. It offers the Big Five in Akagera National Park, a remarkable transformation story of reintroduced lion and rhino. And it offers the Kigali Genocide Memorial, an essential visit that provides context for the country’s remarkable recovery. At Nomara Safaris, we design Rwanda safaris that balance the intensity of gorilla trekking with the relaxation of luxury lodges and the exploration of the country’s rich culture and history.

Best Time to Visit Rwanda

The best time to visit Rwanda depends on what you want to see. The dry seasons from June to September and December to February offer the easiest trekking conditions for gorillas and golden monkeys, with the trails less muddy and the vegetation thinner. These months also offer the clearest skies and most reliable weather for chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest. The green seasons from March to May and October to November offer lower prices and fewer crowds, with the landscapes lush and green and the birding exceptional. However, the trekking is more challenging, and some trails can be slippery. For the best balance of weather, wildlife, and value, consider the shoulder months of June and early December. Nomara Safaris can advise on the optimal timing for your Rwanda safari based on your priorities.
